A young pioneer at work in
the island of St. Lucia. His profound admiration and love for the human anatomy
ignites his consuming passion for his figurative depictions. His relentless pursuit for
excellence and for the mastery of the human figure has fueled his interest in
Public Art. He was educated at St. Mary’s College in St. Lucia, the Jamaica
School of Art, and Johnson Atelier, Princeton, New Jersey. His life-like depictions of his subjects earned him
his most recent commission in 2003. with “The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy” which
was produced for the purpose of awarding the winner of the Double Wicket Cricket
Competition in St. Lucia. Commemorative plaques were also commissioned by the
National Insurance Corporation (NIC) in 2001 to honour the indelible
contributions of six outstanding St. Lucian citizens; these plaques were
installed at The NIC buildings throughout the island. He also became involved in producing the bronze bust
of Sir George F.L. Charles which is presently erected at the Sir George F.L.
Charles Airport in St. Lucia. This was commissioned by the St. Lucia Air and Sea
Ports Authority in 2002. In 1999, Ricky George was one of the five Caribbean
Sculptors commissioned to create VTEC’s Sculpture Gardens. His Sculpture
entitled “Androgena” is presently erected at the Sculpture Gardens at VTEC
University of Technology, Kingston, Jamaica. In 1997, the prestigious Bank
of St. Lucia commissioned him to create the controversial landmark
“The
Aftermath”. The first of its kind is set in isolation to create the effects of
its own name. Other commissions include
The Gabriel Charles Memorial
which was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Department of Forestry
in 1993 in memory of his contribution towards the preservation of Forestry in St.
Lucia and the bronze bust of Sir Arthur Lewis which was commissioned by the Sir
Arthur Lewis Community College in 1992. Ricky’s affiliation at an
early age with Johnson Atelier, Princeton, New Jersey and Artworks Foundry in
Berkeley, California, galvanized his ambitions to possess total reign over his
work from the creative process to the final finished bronze sculpture. His
interaction at the various foundries marked his active participation in casting
at various levels of works of acclaimed Sculptors such as Arnaldo Pomodoro,
Richard MacDonald, John Ruile, Seward Johnson and many more. The Artist Ricky George can

dependent on its technical aspects than sculpture. An ignorance of technique
limits a sculpture’s creativity, wastes hours of work in brining a cast to a
likeness of the original and renders the artist captive of the
foundry’s trade secrecy and commercialism.”
